Why Filipinos are the Best Offshore Workforce Today |
To say that Filipinos have a better appreciation and understanding of American language and culture than people from India, China and other providers of outsourcing services is a gross understatement.
For starters, the Philippines was colonized by Americans for 48 years during which Filipinos were taught how to speak english in schools patterned after their American counterparts. When the country was given its independence in 1946, the government that was created was also very similar to that of the United States. And today, due to the highly Westernized media in the Philippines, Filipinos are up-to-date with almost everything that happens in the US, whether it's current affairs, fashion, technology, entertainment or anything else.
|
| More Advanced English than the Competition |
In the Philippines, english is the dominant mode of communication in government, business, the legal system, sciences, medicine and education. Native languages are mostly used in colloquial settings. Americans and other english-speaking foreigners traveling in the country never get lost because they can ask any man on the street for directions, and he would understand what they're saying.
As a result of the highly Westernized lifestyle many Filipinos live, the Philippines has become a hotspot for multinational BPO companies. According to the local government, from a mere 4,000 in 2001, the number of BPO workers in the country skyrocketed to 350,000 in 2007; and in February 2009, the number already reached 400,000. The prospect for BPO industry's growth is so promising that the government expects a million BPO jobs will be available to Filipinos this year. Stunning growth is also expected to come from the communications and IT industries which would help generate $11 billion to $13 billion USD in revenues. |
| Highly Impressive Literacy Rate |
The impressive literacy rate of Philippines is proof of the high quality of its knowledgeable workers. With a literacy rate of 93.4% according to the United Nations Development Programme, more people in the Philippines are literate than the biggest outsourcing competitor itself, India, which only has a mere grade of 61.0%. Filipinos are also ahead of other BPO competitors like China, Egypt, South Africa and Morocco. In fact, more people are literate in the Philippines than in Mexico or a nuclear power like Iran.
This can be partly attributed to the aggressive campaign of the government to educate the people and infuse more power to the country's BPO industry. Today, the government implements programs such as the "Cyber-Corridor" information and communications technology (ICT) channel, which runs the length of the entire country and interconnects all BPO service centers. The government also has a training program called PGMA-Training for Work Scholarship Program in partnership with the Business Process Association of the Philippines (BPAP). The training includes English language proficiency and computer skills. |
Unmatched and Globally Recognized Dedication to Work |
The Philippines has been known to generate the most dedicated workforce in the entire world. Millions of Overseas Filipino Workers or OFWs serve as the driving force of top industrialized nations like the US, Canada and Italy. The same widely admired qualities of dedicated service and loyalty to their work that are the bread and butter of OFWs are embodied by BPO employees in the Philippines. As a result, more and more foreign companies are recognizing the significant advantage of hiring Filipino Call Center Agents, Web Designers, Programmers, Writers, and other staff over other BPO providers. |
| When it comes to BPO, The Only Way to Go is Filipino |
In terms of offshore business processing, the Philippines is currently the third top performing country in the Asia Pacific, just behind China and India. With all of the plans the government is setting in motion, a 10% market share seems to be in the bag this year. As more and more companies in the US realize the risk of establishing operations in India and other competitors, the Philippines is grabbing more of the attention it deserves. The biggest American high-definition TV company, cell phone provider and broadband provider have now chosen the Philippines as their BPO choice. With this promising trend, the Philippines is truly set to conquer more turf in the global outsourcing industry very, very soon. |

| Talent Acquisition Process: Seeking True Gems |
Offshoring works through the combined and coordinated efforts of its two departments: the Sales Department and Talent Acquisition Department (TA) to get clients and hire people. Once Sales closes a deal with a client, TA works based on the accurate information from Sales to seek the most qualified applicants for the position the client wants filled. For instance, if you're a new client, Mr. Angelito A. Cruz, Offshoring Inc.'s Chief Operating Officer (COO), will immediately send you a Welcome Note, indicating all the contact persons in the company you can always talk to if you have any concerns or problems. Mr. Paul Christian C. Ruiz, Senior Manager for TA and Employee Care, then sends you a Talent Acqusition Brief via e-mail to let you know how Offshoring takes care of the recruitment process.
Offshoring Inc. uses a plethora of strategies to get the best professionals in the Philippines. They place ads on different online job sites and send out referral ads to the e-mails of their own employees. New ways of acquiring applicants, such as using social networking sites to attract interested people, are also being employed by Offshoring's Talent Acquisition Department to have a diverse candidate pool. Events such as tea parties are also arranged to entice more people to join the company. Mr. Ruiz also personally invites qualified individuals to check out what the company has to offer. |
| We Test, You Decide |
Estimated Time Before Submission of Profiles – The length of time before Offshoring Inc. supplies clients with a list of qualified candidates for the positions they need varies according to the level of expertise demanded by clients. For Junior-level staff, TA delivers reviewable candidate profiles in a week; for Intermediate-level, 2-3 weeks; for Senior-level, 3-6 weeks; and for Master-level, 2 months.
Culture Fit and Job Fit – TA processes all applicants with various tests specific to the position being applied for (programmer's test for programmers and writer's test for writers, for example). TA also assesses the overall character of the applicant in interviews. According to Mr. Ruiz, if an applicant doesn't match Offshoring Inc's culture fit and job fit, the applicant is appropriately turned down. “Culture fit” refers to the friendly, humble, but competitive and fast-paced work environment of Offshoring Inc. “Job fit” refers to the skills of the applicant relevant to the position he's applying for.
Client's Participation – The client may administer a test of his own to ensure that he's getting the right people for the work that needs to be done. He may also interview candidates before choosing who's best. Once everything is polished, the client can then choose among the candidates who he wants hired for his account. After a short period of time, his low-cost choice to use Offshoring Inc. turns into huge savings and great profits.
Offshoring Inc. continues to look for ways to hire only the most qualified people for its satisfied clients. Don't waste your time and money on expensive solutions for your business. Try Offshoring Inc. now and have the most excellent people working for you at one-third your original costs! |

3 Simple (but Valuable) Writing Tips from Carlito “Sasi” Casas, Senior Writer |
Carlito, better known in Offshoring Inc.'s headquarters as “Sasi,” is an accomplished Senior Writer who has produced high-quality articles that are creative, informative and high-ranking for numerous clients around the world. Currently in Offshoring's inventory, Sasi is waiting for a new client to serve.
Aside from being a writer, Sasi is a man of various skills and talents. In fact, at least at one point in his life, he had been a branch manager for a real estate company, an events manager, even an actor and a director. |
| Sasi shared some of his writing wisdom with us: |
Never Stop Learning. “If you think you are already the best writer in the world, then you can never be one. For me, a good writer is someone who knows that he/she ALWAYS has a lot of things yet to learn. That’s why I love reading books. I surf the Internet a lot and I ask tips from other writers or inquire about a topic I don’t know from someone who has in-depth knowledge about it. With regard to asking help from other writers, don’t be afraid or embarrassed to ask them for help, such as asking them to edit your work or give an opinion about what you have written. You see, even bestselling authors have editors, too, and are always criticized, so why can’t you? And never stop learning about grammar, even if you already know it like the back of your hand.”
Listen to John Lennon! “Imagine there’s no heaven…' I’m sure you’ve heard of this song over and over again. If you haven’t heard of it yet, try to listen to it. John Lennon teaches us how to be good writers, song writers, or story tellers in this song. We all know that John was a genius in songwriting and in storytelling as well. And you can be just like him (minus the use of illegal substances to stimulate the brain, of course). All you have to do is to 'imagine'. It is also said that imagination can enhance your brain's capacity by leaps and bounds.”
Keep on Writing. “They say that the best way to be the best in anything is to keep practicing. Yes, write everyday about any topic under the sun. Keep on tapping the keys of your keyboard or keep on scribbling on that piece of paper and create words, sentences, and paragraphs that can stir the emotions of the person who will read them. Or if they can’t inspire, at least they can understand whatever you wrote there!”
"I hope the things I’ve suggested here can help you in some way or two, but being a great writer? That’s up to you.”

Top 1: Boracay – The most ardent beach enthusiasts anywhere are familiar with Boracay because this beach's pristine powdery white sand is famous the world over. Boracay Island is situated on the northwestern end of Panay, Western Visayas. The unbelievable white-sand beach stretches four kilometers and is dotted with numerous commercial establishments. Hotels, bars and shopping centers line this major summer destination, which is considered one of the most stunning beaches in the world. If you want the ultimate beach experience, Boracay is the only place to go.
Top 2: El Nido, Palawan – If you want to experience nature in all its magnificence, go to El Nido, Palawan where the sight of seascapes and landscapes never fail to inspire awe in tourists who visit the place. El Nido is so beautiful that it is called the “Islands of the Gods.” You can also try their famous Nido soup, which is made from the natural fluids of birds in the area.
Top 3: Panglao Island, Bohol – The sand in Panglao Island is as white as in Boracay, though not as powdery. The great thing about Bohol's beaches though is that they are not as commercialized as Boracay, so you can enjoy a relaxing time with yourself or a romantic time with your partner as you bathe in the clear blue waters. You can also tour other great sites in Bohol, such as the Chocolate Hills, which is made up of 1,776 hills resembling Hershey's Kisses.
