Philippines' BPO Industry to Set New Records in 2010
The US economy is slowly regaining its legs and this is great news for BPO in general and the outsourcing industry in the Philippines in particular. With more US companies empowered by improving market conditions, they will surely turn to outsourcing and offshoring to maintain their competitive edge. The booming BPO industry in the Philippines is just the perfectly sharpened tool to carve these companies' success in stone.

According to the Philippine government, from a mere 4,000 in 2001, the number of BPO workers in the country skyrocketed to 350,000 in 2007; and in February 2009, the number has already climbed to 400,000. The Philippine government estimates that this year, there will be a million BPO jobs available to Filipinos. The Philippines’ Department of Trade and Industry stated that the BPO sector in the country could generate $11 billion to $13 billion USD in revenues this year. Most of this stunning growth is expected to come from the communications and IT industries.

Taking a Larger Slice of the Pie

In terms of offshore business processing, the Philippines is the third top performing country in the Asia Pacific, just behind China and India. While India still maintains its lead, the Philippines is now planning to grab a larger slice of the pie by aiming for a 10% market share this 2010. The Philippine BPO industry is aiming to achieve this by offering its key advantages to companies from the United States and Europe, such as workers' more advanced level of English, and the higher literacy rate in the country.

India should start looking at its rear-view mirror because the Philippines is really ramping up its BPO development efforts. Some of the most prominent companies in the US are looking at joining others who have already established successful BPO setups in the Philippines. These companies include the biggest American high-definition TV company, cell phone provider and broadband provider.

  Advantage Over Other Countries

What's tempting numerous international companies to setup offshoring operations in the Philippines is the advanced English language that workers use. An average Filipino contact center agent speaks more advanced English than an average Indian worker. Filipinos also have a deeper appreciation and understanding of American culture, making them perfect BPO employees.

The Philippine government is also encouraging growth in the local BPO industry by
implementing programs such as the "Cyber-Corridor" information and communications technology (ICT) channel, which runs the length of the entire country and interconnects all BPO service centers. The government has also allocated P350 million for a training program called PGMA-Training for Work Scholarship Program (PGMA-TSWP) through the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) in partnership with the Business Process Association of the Philippines (BPAP). The training program includes English language proficiency and computer skills.

With all these plans ready to be rolled out, the Philippines is set to give its competitors some serious competition this Year of the Tiger. Indeed, the roar of the Philippines BPO industry will be heard all over the world this 2010.

Graphic Design and Programming Tips by Offshoring Staff

All Offshoring Inc.'s employees are graduates of higher education and most carry four-year advanced degrees. Some of them have also
spent a long time enhancing their skills while working. Their expertise in their fields enables them to compete with the best of the best in
the world each day.

Jayson, Jap and Irvin are just three of Offshoring's world-class staff now available in our inventory. If you want effective, tried and tested
techniques in graphic design and programming, follow these tips from our highly skilled employees.

Art Jayson D. Frias: Junior Graphic Designer

"My experience is focused on image editing. I created banners and other types of images
for my previous clients. The important thing to remember is that online images should be
more vivid than printouts, so you really have to enhance them. Never overprocess an
image so that it looks like it's obviously edited. For example, for a human image, use the
clone tool to clone the skin instead of the blur tool. The clone tool preserves the texture of
the skin while the blur tool tends to make the texture poor. Finally, use the healing tool to
smoothen out the image."

Jayson is a graduate of Bachelor of Fine Arts, Major in Advertising.

His expertise includes:

  • Raw image editing
  • Banner designs
  • Gallery design conceptualization
  • Layout conceptualization and drafting
  • Basic Web design, such as tgp and mgp galleries, and gif/jpg banner

John Paul "Jap" Y. Montenegro: Intermediate Graphic Designer

" There are some things that a graphic designer must always have and must do to be a
good graphic designer. First, he should have a collection of stock images. He must also
have a collection of brushes, gradients, filters for Adobe Photoshop. Second, he must
memorize all the keyboard shortcuts for all types of software that he uses. Third,
familiarizing himself with different types of fonts is also very useful. And finally, he must
update himself on various forms of art to have an up-to-date knowledge of his craft."

Jap is a graduate of Bachelor of Science in Computer Science.

His expertise includes:

  • Macromedia Flash, Adobe Photoshop, Cisco Networking, HTML, Xara 3D
  • Website conceptualization and design
  • Creation of banners and logos
  • Macromedia Fireworks, Jpeg Imager and Macromedia Freehand
  • Interface design

  Irvin D. Amores: Intermediate Programmer

“Here are some techniques I always use when programming. First, to optimize an
application’s performance, do not include functions that are within a loop, if necessary.
Second, SQL injection is prevalent on the Web. You can avoid this by either using filters
or by using prepared statements. Third, you might find this really basic, but inline
comments help a lot when I need to go back and remember what a certain function does.
Try that out to make fewer mistakes.”

Irvin is a graduate of Bachelor of Science in Computer Science.

His expertise includes:

  • Application development
  • CMS systems (ex. Joomla, Wordpress)
  • PHP, HTML, CSS, Javascript & AJAX
  • MySQL, Sybase (ASE, IQ) & MSSQL
  • Content management
  • Web development
  • Online magazines
  • Internet marketing
  • New media & multimedia development
  • Layout and graphic design

Offshoring's Senior Level Admin Staff Talk About their Roles
Offshoring Inc. promotes professional growth and development among its highly skilled employees. Administration staff are likewise trained and daily exposed to duties that broaden and sharpen their management skills. Mr. Paul Christian C. Ruiz, Atty. Cielita S. Subiera, and Ms. Adelina Rada are just three of the hardworking people in Offshoring Inc.'s administration team who ensure the company's world-class staff-leasing services are maintained and constantly improved. Paul, Ciely, and Len talked to us about the challenge of handling their senior level roles at Offshoring Inc.

Caring for Employees and Searching for Talents

Paul is Offshoring Inc.’s Senior Manager for Employee Care and Talent Acquisition.
His previous position was Recruitment Manager, where he talked with clients, closed
accounts and hunted heads for the company. Today, Paul handles more responsibilities
compared to his previous position. “I’m not just in charge of recruiting people. I also face
them when they have to leave the company for different reasons, and that’s a bit
challenging.” Paul heads two of the most important departments of Offshoring:
Employee Care and Talent Acquisition. He said that he cannot afford to make mistakes
while doing his job because everything reflects on him.

Not Your Typical Finance Manager

Atty. Cielita S. Subiera, otherwise known as “Ciely,” has an imposing educational and
professional background. Ciely used to be the Finance Manager for Offshoring Inc.
Today, she is the Senior Manager for Finance and Admin of Offshoring Inc. While the
additional responsibilities are indeed challenging, Ciely sees an opportunity to enhance
her skills further and enjoy her job even more. “Finance function is already broad enough
for me to handle considering that that there are things that I cannot just delegate to my
accounting officers. If ever I do delegate, I make sure to check them and take
responsibility for my staff’s work. But having an added responsibility spices up my job
and breaks the monotony. I will just have to learn multi-tasking, delegate more and
empower those below me to be able to handle the new position.”

  Maintaining Outstanding Operations

Len is the former Shift Manager for Offshoring’s night shift employees. She was recently
promoted to Senior Manager for Operations, which means all Shift Supervisors and
Project Managers now report to her. Aside from managing the day-to-day performance of
operations in line with company policies, Len also contributes to short and long-term
organizational planning as part of the management team. She works closely with clients
and Shift Supervisors to make sure all clients’ needs are addressed. Despite all the
responsibilities, Len is unfazed. “I’ve been doing almost the same thing when I was a
Shift Manager,” she said. With Len on Operations’ wheels, Offshoring Inc. is surely going
in the right direction.

Paul, Ciely and Len plan to continue doing their best to push Offshoring's vision to fruition. Meanwhile, the rest of Offshoring's administration staff are ready to support them as friends and colleagues who are deeply loyal to the number one staff-leasing services provider in the industry.

Flash Animation Tips by Franscisco Castañeda Jr: Senior Graphic Designer

Francisco “Kyx” Castañeda Jr. is a Senior Graphic Designer at Offshoring Inc. He’s been in web, broadcast and print design industry for 10 years, constantly enhancing his world-class skills and satisfying his clients’ needs. Currently in Offshoring’s inventory and excited for a new client, Kyko shares some tips on Flash animation that have made him successful for a long time.

Consider the Nature of the Project

In doing Flash animations, one of the most important thing to consider is the nature of the
project. You have to ask yourself questions such as, “What is the purpose of the piece of
animation you’re going to create?” “Who will be its audience?” “Will it be uploaded for viewing online or e-mailed as a viral ad? “Will it be viewed as a stand- alone multimedia file on a CD or created for broadcast airing?”

Knowing how your animation will be viewed, you can better set the ratio between animation quality and file size rendition. Animation for Web is usually set at 12 fps (frames per second). Taking into consideration bandwidth limit, strike the best ratio of the two. A higher frame rate means better animation quality but at a cost of a larger rendered file size.

Flash animations for broadcast airing can be set at 24 fps or higher. If you’re doing animation to be saved on a CD as a standalone
multimedia file, render it depending on the PC specs of your targeted viewers.

Use Vector Files Instead of Raster Images

If you can get away with using vector files instead of raster files, then by all means, do so. By default, vector files render a smaller file size
compared to imported raster files. This is because vector files are scalable and modifiable geometrical primitives such as points, lines,
curves, and shapes or polygons, which are all stored on the file as mathematical equations. Some examples of vector files are .ai, .cdr
and .eps. Raster files, on the other hand, are representations of images using an array of pixels on a grid. Examples of this type of file are
jpg, .bmp, .gif, .png, .tiff.

Think About Embedding or Breaking Fonts Apart as Shapes

When working with fonts in Flash, consider breaking them apart as shapes or embedding them. There's a possibility special fonts won't
render properly on viewers’ Flash player if you used them in your piece of animation. If they don't have the specific font type installed, these
special fonts will just be replaced with default fonts. Take note though that converting them into shapes or embedding them adds to the
final rendered file. Unless you have your animation exported as a video file, you are guaranteed that your fonts will be rendered correctly.

Use MP3 Instead of WAV in your Flash Projects

Try considering using mp3 files instead of wav files in your projects. Mp3 files render a much smaller file size as compared to using wav
files. Although some sound frequencies are eliminated during selective compression with an mp3 file, these are hardly noticeable. An
original audio file can be compressed approximately 1/12 of its size when rendered in mp3 format. Now imagine how much your Flash
animation file size will drop using this file format instead.

These are just a few optimization and rendering tricks you can use when doing animations in Flash. You'll discover more as you go on
and explore ways on searching for that perfect balance between quality and file size.

Aside from creating Flash animation, Kyko is also highly skilled in executing computer-aided designs as well as rendering freehand
artwork. His wide variety of specialization includes corporate and personal websites. If you’re interested in being Kyko’s next lucky

  Romance Reigns this February

Love inspires a person to be his best, which is why celebrating Valentine’s Day is
important to Offshoring Inc., the pioneer in staff-leasing services in the Philippines. This
February, Offshoring’s headquarters at Pasig City, Philippines is richly decorated in red
and pink ornaments, the colors of romance. The Employee Care Department also
prepared a dating game for employees to tickle their hearts for V Day.

Valentine’s Day Preparations

Employees at Offshoring Inc. always have something different to look forward to at the
office. For instance, on Mondays, they are treated to a mini-concert at the pantry, and every
first of the month, they receive their own employee newsletter. Company excursions and
sports festivals keep them happy with Offshoring and build friendships among their
colleagues. Occasions like Christmas and Halloween are also annually celebrated to
give employees fun, memorable breaks from their work. Valentine’s Day is no exception.

On the 5th floor of Tycoon Centre Condominium where operations employees are hard
at work, the freedom wall has already been painted with a new Valentine-theme design.
On the 27th floor, where Offshoring’s management is located, the main door and the
information booth are decorated with red paper cut-outs shaped like hearts and baby
cupids. All employees and applicants who come inside Offshoring’s offices are greeted
with a big “Happy Valentine’s Day” plastered in front of the information booth.

Two dating games were held at the pantry of Offshoring Inc. on February 12, one for the
morning shift and one for the night shift employees. Jasmin Salangsang, a Call Center
Agent, searched for the guy who amused her heart the most in the morning game; while
Carlo Villacorta, a Technical Support Representative, chose the girl who wooed him best
in the night party. The searchers and winners received cash prizes that they spent on their
romantic dinner dates.

The secret of the world-class quality of Offshoring’s employees is that they love their jobs
and they are never bored with their careers. With celebrations for occasions like
Valentine’s Day, Offshoring is able to encourage its employees to have fun at the office.
These expert administration and management strategies maintain Offshoring’s position
as the number one trailblazer in staff-leasing services.

SEO & Creative Writing: Creating the Perfect Content for your Sites
The length of your website’s stay at the top of search engine page results (SERPs) will determine whether you can use it to generate
income consistently or not. The best kinds of Web content are those that are optimized for search engines and, at the same time, provide
readers with valuable information or excellent means of entertainment.

You’ve got 3 choices on how to create the best content for your website. These are: writing the content yourself, buying private label
content, and hiring Web-content writers.

Writing the Content Yourself
- This is the most inexpensive solution of the three but also the one with the most risks. If you’re neither a writer nor an SEO specialist, you’d likely have
a difficult time creating good content for your website; and in the end, that content may still not be enough to boost your page rank. If you still want to dabble in writing and SEO though, you can
start by finding the right keywords to use. To find appropriate keywords, use keyword analyzers. After coming up with keywords, use these to write your content, making sure that your keywords only appear 2 to 5 percent of the time. More than this and search engines might recognize your content as spam and your rank will drop further.

Buying Private Label Content
- No matter how many SEO techniques you apply, if
your content is poorly written, your website will likely have a difficult time ascending page
rankings. Buying private label content is a way to solve this problem. Private label content is prewritten content that you can buy and edit. There’s a huge drawback with this option, though. Buying private label content, especially from membership sites, do not guarantee you original content. Others who are buying the same content as you are may post the unedited version to
their website, resulting in duplicates or near duplicates. When search engines recognize that
your website is a duplicate, it will be penalized, leaving your page rank crashing down. Your website may even be filtered out
of the results page.

Hiring a Web content Writer - Web content writers are skilled professionals that have experience creating original content for websites. Thus, hiring Web content writers may be the best option of the three. Real Web content writers usually are adept at creative and technical writing and are also knowledgeable in SEO. Some have IT-related educational backgrounds, while others even come from journalism or communications courses.

Prices of Web content writers differ based on the skill level of the writer and where he works. For instance, skilled American Web content writers are generally expensive, especially if you’re going to hire them full-time. If you want cheaper alternatives, you can search for outsourced offshore Web content writers on the Internet. Depending on the credibility and quality of the provider, offshore Web content writers can create content that ranges from mediocre to perfect. The best providers are those that offer highly skilled Web content writers for low prices.

Whatever option you choose to create content for your website, always remember that your investment today determines the value of your website in the future. A website with exceptional SEO qualities and superbly written content will stand the test of time, return your investment quickly, and give you profits you used to only dream of.
