| Philippines' BPO Industry to Set New Records in 2010 | ||||||
The
US economy is slowly regaining its legs and this is great news for BPO
in general and the outsourcing industry in the Philippines in particular.
With more US companies empowered by improving market conditions, they
will surely turn to outsourcing and offshoring to maintain their competitive
edge. The booming BPO industry in the Philippines is just the perfectly
sharpened tool to carve these companies' success in stone.According to the Philippine government, from a mere 4,000 in 2001, the number of BPO workers in the country skyrocketed to 350,000 in 2007; and in February 2009, the number has already climbed to 400,000. The Philippine government estimates that this year, there will be a million BPO jobs available to Filipinos. The Philippines’ Department of Trade and Industry stated that the BPO sector in the country could generate $11 billion to $13 billion USD in revenues this year. Most of this stunning growth is expected to come from the communications and IT industries. |
||||||
Taking
a Larger Slice of the Pie India should start looking at its rear-view mirror because the Philippines is really ramping up its BPO development efforts. Some of the most prominent companies in the US are looking at joining others who have already established successful BPO setups in the Philippines. These companies include the biggest American high-definition TV company, cell phone provider and broadband provider. |
||||||
| Advantage Over Other Countries | ||||||
The Philippine government is also encouraging
growth in the local BPO industry by With all these plans ready to be rolled out, the Philippines is set to give its competitors some serious competition this Year of the Tiger. Indeed, the roar of the Philippines BPO industry will be heard all over the world this 2010. |

for Employees and Searching for Talents Paul is Offshoring Inc.’s Senior Manager for Employee Care and Talent Acquisition. His previous position was Recruitment Manager, where he talked with clients, closed accounts and hunted heads for the company. Today, Paul handles more responsibilities compared to his previous position. “I’m not just in charge of recruiting people. Your Typical Finance Manager Atty. Cielita S. Subiera, otherwise known as “Ciely,” has an imposing educational and professional background. Ciely used to be the Finance Manager for Offshoring Inc. Today, she is the Senior Manager for Finance and Admin of Offshoring Inc. While the additional responsibilities are indeed challenging, Ciely sees an opportunity to enhance her skills further and enjoy her job even more. “Finance function is already broad enough for me to handle considering that that there are things that I cannot just delegate to my accounting officers. If ever I do delegate, I make sure to check them and take responsibility for my staff’s work. But having an added responsibility spices up my job and breaks the monotony. I will just have to learn multi-tasking, delegate more and empower those below me to be able to handle the new position.” |

| Flash Animation Tips by Franscisco Castañeda Jr: Senior Graphic Designer | ||||||
Francisco “Kyx” Castañeda
Jr. is a Senior Graphic Designer at Offshoring Inc. He’s been in
web, broadcast and print design industry for 10 years, constantly enhancing
his world-class skills and satisfying his clients’ needs. Currently
in Offshoring’s inventory and excited for a new client, Kyko shares
some tips on Flash animation that have made him successful for a long
time.Consider the Nature of the Project In doing Flash animations, one of the most important thing to consider is the nature of the project. You have to ask yourself questions such as, “What is the purpose of the piece of animation you’re going to create?” “Who will be its audience?” “Will it be uploaded for viewing online or e-mailed as a viral ad? “Will it be viewed as a stand- alone multimedia file on a CD or created for broadcast airing?” Knowing how your animation will be viewed, you can better set the ratio between animation quality and file size rendition. Animation for Web is usually set at 12 fps (frames per second). Taking into consideration bandwidth limit, strike the best ratio of the two. A higher frame rate means better animation quality but at a cost of a larger rendered file size. Flash animations for broadcast airing can be set at 24 fps or higher. If you’re doing animation to be saved on a CD as a standalone multimedia file, render it depending on the PC specs of your targeted viewers. Use Vector Files Instead of Raster Images If you can get away with using vector files instead of raster files, then by all means, do so. By default, vector files render a smaller file size compared to imported raster files. This is because vector files are scalable and modifiable geometrical primitives such as points, lines, curves, and shapes or polygons, which are all stored on the file as mathematical equations. Some examples of vector files are .ai, .cdr and .eps. Raster files, on the other hand, are representations of images using an array of pixels on a grid. Examples of this type of file are jpg, .bmp, .gif, .png, .tiff. If you can get away with using vector files instead of raster files, then by all means, do so. Think About Embedding or Breaking Fonts Apart as Shapes When working with fonts in Flash, consider breaking them apart as shapes or embedding them. There's a possibility special fonts won't render properly on viewers’ Flash player if you used them in your piece of animation. If they don't have the specific font type installed, these special fonts will just be replaced with default fonts. Take note though that converting them into shapes or embedding them adds to the final rendered file. Unless you have your animation exported as a video file, you are guaranteed that your fonts will be rendered correctly. Use MP3 Instead of WAV in your Flash Projects Try considering using mp3 files instead of wav files in your projects. Mp3 files render a much smaller file size as compared to using wav files. Although some sound frequencies are eliminated during selective compression with an mp3 file, these are hardly noticeable. An original audio file can be compressed approximately 1/12 of its size when rendered in mp3 format. Now imagine how much your Flash animation file size will drop using this file format instead. These are just a few optimization and rendering tricks you can use when doing animations in Flash. You'll discover more as you go on and explore ways on searching for that perfect balance between quality and file size. |

Love inspires a person to be his best, which is why celebrating Valentine’s Day is important to Offshoring Inc., the pioneer in staff-leasing services in the Philippines. This February, Offshoring’s headquarters at Pasig City, Philippines is richly decorated in red and pink ornaments, the colors of romance. The Employee Care Department also prepared a dating game for employees to tickle their hearts for V Day. Valentine’s Day Preparations Employees at Offshoring Inc. always have something different to look forward to at the office. For instance, on Mondays, they are treated to a mini-concert at the pantry, and every first of the month, they receive their own employee newsletter. Company excursions and sports festivals keep them happy with Offshoring and build friendships among their colleagues. Occasions like Christmas and Halloween are also annually celebrated to give employees fun, memorable breaks from their work. Valentine’s Day is no exception. On the 5th floor of Tycoon Centre Condominium where operations employees are hard at work, the freedom wall has already been painted with a new Valentine-theme design. On the 27th floor, where Offshoring’s management is located, the main door and the information booth are decorated with red paper cut-outs shaped like hearts and baby cupids. All employees and applicants who come inside Offshoring’s offices are greeted with a big “Happy Valentine’s Day” plastered in front of the information booth. Two dating games were held at the pantry of Offshoring Inc. on February 12, one for the morning shift and one for the night shift employees. Jasmin Salangsang, a Call Center Agent, searched for the guy who amused her heart the most in the morning game; while Carlo Villacorta, a Technical Support Representative, chose the girl who wooed him best in the night party. The searchers and winners received cash prizes that they spent on their romantic dinner dates. The secret of the world-class quality of Offshoring’s employees is that they love their jobs and they are never bored with their careers. With celebrations for occasions like Valentine’s Day, Offshoring is able to encourage its employees to have fun at the office.
