The World Is Flat
When Christopher Columbus went on to search for the Spice Islands of the East near India, he accidentally discovered something far spicier than spices – he discovered that the world is round.
When Thomas Friedman went to Bangalore, India to search for stories he accidentally discovered something far more disturbing than what he came for – he discovered that the world is flat.
The discovery of Columbus opened the door for America but what about Friedman's discovery - does this necessarily means that it will close that door?
Isn't it frightening? Where are you going to go and what are you going to do if you found out that the world is flat?
If you are making a list of the books you must read before you die then you should include The World is Flat by Thomas Friedman.
This Pulitzer awardee for International Reporting really did make an impact to the world as he showed how and when the world started to flatten and is eventually everyday by globalization. Although the critics said that it's not as compelling as his first book, The Lexus and the Olive Tree, surely, The World is Flat must be read not only by Osama Bin Laden but also by every American, Canadian, European, Australian, Asian, African – by everybody.
One, if not the greatest flattener of the world is offshoring. He mentioned it in chapter 2 but the idea of offshoring is omnipresent in almost every chapter of this book.
Let us highlight the offshoring gists of every chapter:
When I Was Sleeping
The Ten Forces That Flattened The World

Quote of the Month :
"For a business to prosper, the owner must know how to delegate responsibilities. If he wants to expand, he has to delegate; after all, he only has two hands and two feet, he has to put the right people at the right place. When looking for the right people, he should trust his gut feel".
